Is the Apple iPhone 15 Series A Must Have Upgrade?

iphone 15 must have upgrade

It’s been a week since Apple released the iPhone 15. Before you run out and drop a thousand dollars or more on a new device, understand what you’re paying for and what issues are being reported about the stylish new upgrade.

Key Items

The iPhone 15, like previous models, comes in four models: standard, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max. The price point is between $999 and $1,599, depending on the version and storage capacity, and it comes in various colors — blue, pink yellow, green, and black (iPhone & iPhone Plus) and white, black, natural, and blue (iPhone Pro & Pro Max).

iPhone 15 Upgrades

The iPhone 15 shares much in common with the iPhone 14, with a few substantial enhancements. The most prominent new features* include:

  • a three-nanometer A17 pro-chip with 10% faster CPU speeds.
  • 6-core GPU for a 20% faster performance and hardware-accelerated ray tracing for gaming.
  • USB-C port replaces the lightning port so you to charge the iPhone, iPad, and Mac with the same cable.
  • 5x zoom capable camera and 256GB to 1TB of storage.
  • Log encoding, allowing for 4K 60fps ProRes video.
  • Wi-Fi 6E (Sub-6Ghz 5G) available for 2x faster speeds.
  • IP68 rating for resistance to dust and water.
  • 8GB of Ram, up 2GB from the iPhone 14

The most noticeable change, of course, is the new titanium casing. Lighter than stainless steel, titanium makes the new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max lighter and stronger. Apple also repositioned some of the components to make its center of gravity more balanced, creating the illusion of it being even lighter in your hand.

Reported iPhone 15 Issues

One of the most reported issues with the new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max is overheating! Even using simple apps like Facebook or Snapchat will warm the phone enough to be uncomfortable to hold—and in some cases, cause 1st degree burns. This could be due to the lighter design, smaller area for heat dissipation, and thermal efficiency.

Another major issue is the durability of the back glass. Although the aluminum internal frame makes it easier to repair the back glass, many of the drop tests floating around the Internet seem to indicate that the back glass is more prone to breaking than its predecessor. Therefore, we highly recommend purchasing a durable case and tempered glass as soon as possible after purchase.

Other issues may include: cosmetic imperfections, data transfer issues, and display alignment issues. Luckily, most of these issues can be fixed via forthcoming software updates.
